FADE IN. EXT. PING PONG BALL FACTORY - CHINA - DAY
An industrial compound with tall walls to house the five buildings inside. In the distance, the sounds of a bustling city and the flow of the Zhujiang Kou River. A sign at the front of the main building reads “Cheoy Lee” (in English, “Lucky Profit”).
In front of a large warehouse, teenage CHINESE BOYS puff on cigarettes and chat incoherently.
A tiny frail CHINESE WOMAN sweeps trash into a pile.
She leans on the broom to rest for a moment. A stern looking CHINESE MAN yells something angrily in Mandarin at her. She bows and nods apologetically, then starts sweeping again.
Nearby, a younger BOY rolls a cart of cardboard boxes over to wooden shipping crates with numbers on the side.
One of the boxes teeters, falls off the cart. Ping pong balls, white and perfectly round, spill out and roll across the pavement.
